Varėna

Margionys is located in the municipality of Varėna. Therefore, formally, even though Druskininkai is larger and closer to the village, the administration of Varėna municipality is in charge of running the public life in Margionys as well.

Varėna is a rather small town, completely surrounded by forests. As a matter of fact, Varėna municipality is the most forested municipality in Lithuania.

Varėna is located about 30 km away from Margionys. It is on the way towards or from Vilnius, depending on the direction you would be travelling. There are no particular sights to be visited in Varėna, of course this is a matter of taste and choice... Forests, fresh air and relaxed atmosphere are considered to be the main assets of this town.

It is convenient to stop-by here for groceries, on the way from Vilnius to Margionys. Even though the choice may not be as broad as in Vilnius, however, availability of shops and products is sufficiently large. The advantage is that shops are much less crowded than in Vilnius. You cannot get lost in Varėna - there are only 2-3 main streets. The best for shopping is to continue on the main street into the center of town.
